Youngest daughter of the economist Silvio Gesell and Wanda Tomys.
Sonja was two when her father died at sixty-eight. They lived in Hohennevendorf (Germany). She then moved to Villa Gesell (Argentina), founded by her brother Carlos Gesell. There she lived most of her life and still resides there. She became an expert in the work of her father, specially in THE NATURAL ECONOMIC ORDER, which defends the idea of a currency that would depreciate over time, at scheduled intervals, and that is known as negative interest money.

Sonja tenía dos años cuando su padre falleció a los sesenta y ocho años. Vivían en Hohennevendorf (Alemania). Después se mudó a Villa Gesell (Argentina), fundada por su hermano Carlos Gesell. Allí vivió casi toda su vida y aún reside allí. Estudiosa apasionada de la obra de su padre y de su trabajo EL ORDEN ECONÓMICO NATURAL, que defiende la idea de una moneda que se depreciaría con el tiempo, en intervalos programados, y a la que se suele llamar dinero de interés negativo.
